KARACHI: Bandit held after shootout

KARACHI, Dec. 6: The police on Monday evening arrested a bandit after exchange of fire in the limits of Mockho police station. Police said two bandits were roaming in a suspicious manner in Qaimkhani Colony near the terminus of minibus X-23. As a patrolling police party tried to intercept the suspects, they opened fire and tried to flee.

The police returned the fire, wounding a suspect, identified as Naveed. The suspect suffered two bullet wounds. He was taken to Civil Hospital for treatment. Police recovered a TT pistol and several rounds from his possession. Police are looking for the accomplice of the wounded suspect.

FIRE: A major fire broke out in a leading departmental store on Tariq Road on Monday morning. According to the Chief Fire Officer Kazim Ali, fire broke out in the basement of the ground-plus-four-story building.

The fire soon engulfed the entire basement of the building where Sarees were being kept for sale. The fire caused a thick smoke which forced the employees to run to the top floor.

"As we reached the spot, two employees were still stranded, and we rescued them by using snorkel". The female employees were taken to a hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.
