HYDERABAD, Dec 6: Fifty medical specialists presented their papers at a two-day annual conference of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Pakistan which concluded here on Sunday.

The conference was jointly organized by the society, Higher Education Commission, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, and the Isra University.

The experts dwelt at length on women's diseases, mortality ratio and preventive measures. LUMHS Vice Chancellor Prof Jan Mohammad Memon called upon medical specialists to find out ways and means to save lives of women during delivery.

Prof Ms Aftab Munir, Prof Amina Memon, Prof Farrukh Zaman, Prof Shaista Arain, Dr Farzana Arain, Dr Pushpa Kumari, Dr Ghazala and others said the society was striving to reduce the mortality rate among women. The president of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of India, Dr Bahram Alkelseria, also spoke on the occasion.

QASMI CHAIR: The Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi Chair of the University of Sindh will award gold medal and scholarships to meritorious and deserving students of arts and Islamic studies faculties and publish new books. This was decided at the first meeting of the Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi Chair, presided over by the university's Vice Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui.
