KARACHI, Dec. 5: Speakers at a demonstration here on Sunday warned of a protest rally outside the Governor's House on Dec 12 if all sugar mills in Sindh did not restart their operation immediately and if Muttahida Qaumi Movement was given 50 per cent share in the Sindh government jobs.
The demonstration was organized by the Sindh National Party Labour Federation outside the Karachi Press Club. Hakim Ali Halepoto, Anis Dayo, Bilawal Sindhi, Shaman Chandio, Dr Mujahid Abassi, Waheed Abro and several other party leaders addressed the rally.
They condemned sugar millowners for keeping their mills closed by raising irrelevant issues and thus pushing sugarcane growers into financial crisis. They gave 24 hours to the millowners to restart their mills, saying that in case of failure, they and sugarcane growers from across the province would stage a sit-in at the office of the Sugar Mills Association.
They also criticised the government for surrendering to one of its allied parties which had been blackmailing it. They warned that if MQM was given even one per cent more than the due share in recruitment, the move would not be tolerated. The demonstrators were holding placards inscribed with slogans in support of their demands.
