FAISALABAD, Dec 5: The local police arrested five prayer leaders for delivering speeches on loudspeakers here on Sunday. Reports said the government had imposed a ban on the use of loudspeakers except for Azan and sermons.

The police rounded up Molvi Abdul Rehman of Chak 49-JB, Molvi Habibur Rehman and Muneer Ahmed of Chak 120-JB, and Tanveer Ahmed and Muhammad Noaman of Nishatabad. All the arrested prayer leaders were sent to jail after registering separate cases against them.

SUSPENDED: DIG Sajjad Ahmed suspended from service three sub-inspectors, including an SHO, for dereliction of duties here on Sunday. The DIG paid a surprise visit to the Thikriwala police station, checked the record of the inmates and the attendance of the personnel.

The DIG found that SI Bashir Ahmed, Chak 30 police post incharge, detained three villagers without registration of any case. He suspended the SI and released all the three detainees.

Kotwali SHO Muhammad Abbas failed to implement the security instructions of the DIG due to which he faced suspension. Similarly, SI Mehmood Khan of the Police Lines was found negligent.

SHOT DEAD: Three bandits shot dead a villager on resistance during a robbery in Thikriwala on Saturday night. Motorcyclist Ihsanul Haq was intercepted by armed outlaws near Sarian village in the limits of Thikriwala police station. The outlaws tried to snatch the two-wheeler from the villager, but he put up resistance. At this, the bandits shot him dead and escaped from the scene.
