LAHORE, Nov 24: A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday acquitted three persons of Faisalabad People's Colony who were sentenced to death by a sessions court.
Accepting their appeal, the bench, comprising Justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif and Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar Husain, decided to acquit the three convicts by giving them the benefit of the doubt as the prosecution could not establish explicitly that they had committed the offence.
Abdul Waheed alias Teddy, Shakeel Ahmad alias Shahji and Mohammad Zahid alias Ghaggi were charged with dacoity and murder of two guards Hamid Ali and Irshad Ahmad of a goods forwarding company. They allegedly entered the company's office and killed the guards on offering resistance.
HOSPITAL: The LHC on Wednesday directed the Sheikh Zayed Hospital administrator to appear in person on Thursday to state if he had appointed a medical board for the examination of accused Rana Daud Ahmad.
Earlier, the court had directed the hospital for the appointment of a medical board but the court of Justice Mohammad Sharif was later informed that the accused was examined by a doctor and not by a board.
The board was to examine Rana Daud Ahmad of Shakargarh who was arrested by the Zafarwal police in March 2003 when bottles of liquor were recovered from his medical store. He was remanded in judicial custody and his request for bail was rejected first by a judicial magistrate, then by an additional sessions judge and later the LHC.
The accused later stated in an application that he had fallen sick on which the LHC asked the hospital to get the accused examined by a medical board if he was really sick.
