Published November 24, 2004

SUKKUR, Nov 23: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal MNA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto has alleged that President Gen Pervez Musharraf was not honouring the agreement he had made with the MMA, and said that they would not let him do so.

He said that the MMA had cooperated with the government to resolve the constitutional crisis over the 17th constitutional amendment and made the agreement with the government.

Speaking at a meeting of the MMA here on Tuesday, he said that they would force the president to shed his uniform and the Karachi public meeting of November 28 would be the starting point of the protest movement over the issue. Mr Bhutto said that the MMA was the only party which guided the people of Pakistan towards right course and took up issues of public interest.

JAMALI: Former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said talks between the opposition and the government are a welcome sign. He was talking to journalists in the Fateh Mohammad Umrani village, near Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan, on Sunday.

Mr Jamali said the recent meeting between opposition leader Maulana Fazalur Rehman and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz was a good omen for government-opposition relations. He said the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy should not make haste on the president's uniform issue as there was still time to shed off the uniform.

About the coming visit of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to India, he said it would help improve relations and ease the tension between the two countries. He said Pakistan was prepared to consider options to resolve the Kashmir issue but India had been stubborn on the issue.
