KARACHI, Nov 23: The Sindh High Court asked the Quaid-i-Azam Azam Academy on Tuesday to consider publishing a book written by one of its employees within a reasonable period of time.
The direction, by a division bench, comprising Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad and Justice Maqbool Baqar, disposed of a contempt application moved by Din Ali Pirzada, an academy employee who had done a study on Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah.
He stated that he had earlier moved a writ petition and in the course of proceedings conducted on it by another division bench, an academy official promised to get the book published within six months.
The petition was disposed of in April in terms of the promise made on the academy's behalf. Contesting the contempt application, Deputy Attorney-General Syed Zaki Mohammad submitted that no writer has a vested right to have his book published by a particular publisher or by any publisher or institution. The book written by the applicant was, according to his instructions, found to contain errors.
MEDICAL BOARD: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Amir Hani Muslim, on Tuesday ordered constitution of a medical board to examine an applicant/accused in an accountability case, adds APP.
Abdul Latif Khan, owner of Best Western Plaza Hotel sought bail on medical grounds. Justice (Retd) Abul Inam appearing for the accused maintained that the accused is a chronic cardiac patient, besides suffering from diabetes and hypertension.
The accused survived two heart surgeries and another of knee joints and continued confinement might prove injurious to his health. Shaukat H Zubedi, Deputy Prosecutor General of National Accountability Bureau opposed the bail plea. The bench observed that rights guaranteed to a citizen cannot be taken away and counsel for the applicant is ready to argue the matter on merits.
