KARACHI, Nov 22: The city district government requested the Sindh High Court on Monday to dismiss a suit instituted by the organizers of 'unauthorized bachat bazaars'.

Representing the defendant CDGK, Advocate Manzoor Ahmed argued before Justice Khilji Arif Hussain that the plaintiffs have failed to submit a list of bachat bazaars facing termination.

The district consultative council, which consists of all 18 nazims of the city's town committees, decided recently to close all bachat bazaars being held on any day except Sunday. The plaint does not specify the bazaars being organized on various weekdays. It also omits to mention the names of their organizers.

The CDGK counsel argued that the plaintiffs have also failed to produce any licence or no-objection certificate to substantiate their entitlement to hold bachat bazaars.

In any case, it was for the local government to sanction bachat bazaars and it was well within its authority to allow the holding of such bazaars on a particular day (Sunday), he maintained.
