Mumtaz Bhutto supports jirga system

Published November 20, 2004

DADU, Nov 19: The chairman of the Sindh National Front, Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, has said that if someone kills a woman after getting solid proof of her illicit affair with someone else, it is not a big problem.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, he said if someone killed an innocent woman on the pretext of karo-kari, then the government should punish that man. Mr Bhutto said the judicial system in the country had collapsed and assemblies, courts and administrations had failed to provide justice to people, hence the jirga system was the best solution for people to get justice.

He said Sindhis were being defamed in the world because of the highlighting of karo-kari issue. He said that his party would not join hands with the ARD in movement against the government because there were no genuine people in the alliance.

He said there was no consensus among provinces on the NFC award and the federal government was victimizing smaller provinces in the distribution of financial resources.
