KARACHI, Nov 19: Reiterating Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians' position against the proposed Kalabagh dam, leader of the opposition in the Sindh assembly, Nisar Khuhro warned the government against taking a decision against the wishes of the people of Sindh.

"If Pakistan is opposed to the Indian dam in the occupied Kashmir, why is the government here not responsive to the sentiments of the people of Sindh against the Kalabagh dam," asked Nisar Khuhro, while addressing a news conference after the provincial assembly session on Friday.

"I am warning the government that if it decides to go ahead with the Kalabagh dam, and if Shaukat Aziz or Pervez Musharraf announce it without consensus and in total disregard of the various resolutions passed by the provincial assembly, the responsibility would lie on the shoulders of both the government functionaries," he said.

Mr Khuhro warned that if the government did not respect the wishes of the people of Sindh, the PPP-P would do whatever was possible to save the country. He also deplored the government for the kind of threats being hurled at Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi and his son and targeting his ambulance network.

He claimed that Maulana Edhi was threatened because Faisal Edhi had reduced the fee of ambulance service and had decided not to charge anything for ward-to-ward movement. Mr Khuhro alleged that the government was not taking the matter seriously, because it was serving a certain vested interest. He also questioned the writ of the government.
