Urgent medical tests for Chandana

COLOMBO, Nov 17: Sri Lanka leg-spinner Upul Chandana has been sent to Singapore for urgent medical tests on a respiratory complaint. Chandana has struggled with his breathing since Sri Lanka's recent tour of Pakistan and is an injury concern for the forthcoming tour to New Zealand.

Sri Lanka Cricket announced on Wednesday that he would be flown to Singapore for a check-up before the final squad is chosen. Chandana was selected in a 20-man training pool for New Zealand and his absence would leave just one specialist spinner in Rangana Herath in the squad.

Off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan was left out of the squad but he is expected to recover from shoulder surgery in time for the Test leg of the tour in the New Year. Chandana has taken 35 wickets in 14 Tests and 137 wickets in 132 One-day Internationals. -Reuters
