COLOMBO, Nov 5: While President Chandrika Kumaratunga is in Delhi to finalize a defence agreement between Sri Lanka and India , the LTTE and the pro-LTTE political party, the Tamil National Alliance, said on Friday that any defence pact with India would "seriously destabilize the peace process".

The LTTE head office sources in the north stated that its political wing leader, S. Thamilchelvam, had been requested by LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran to "give a final warning to the government to accept the rebels' demand for a separate administration".

The LTTE order came a day after the meeting between the president and opposition leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, to discuss the likely resumption of peace talks. The LTTE has reiterated that a defence pact with India would "affect any chances of peace".
