KARACHI, Oct 22: Stray dogs roaming on streets and roads in various localities of Korangi areas are posing a serious threat to dwellers as dog-bite cases are common there due to unchecked growth of this creature for years.

Absence of street-lights and re-emergence of dairy farms at different places which were once shifted from the town, has further aggravated the situation as people travelling at night often come across the frightening moments of their life, when barking dogs try to chase them and whenever succeed in their hunt, leave the victim to get his wounds healed against heavy expense of his precious time and money, coupled with mental distress.

The unavailability of anti-rabies vaccines and associated pain and cost, if it is available privately, multiply the wounds of the victim. The road stretching from Korangi 5 1/2 to 100-Quarters and Ellahia mosque, which is the route of 17-K bus, and Ghaus Pak road are some of the locations where the population of stray-dogs has assumed alarming proportions.

The recent anti-pye-dog campaign launched across the city by the City District Government, Karachi (CDGK), under its 10-day cleanliness drive, did not show any remarkable improvement in various parts of Korangi town, where nuisance of stray dogs is still prevailing and require persistent efforts by concerned authorities for elimination of stray- dogs.

The residents have urged the Town Municipal Administration to initiate a special drive for killing pye dogs, particularly in the above mentioned areas. Similarly, stray dogs continue to roan Saudia Colony, Gharibabad Goth and in Dakhana area of Malir town. -APP
