DHAKA, Oct 22: The newly acquired Bangladeshi identity for 10 young men and women living in a city camp for stranded Pakistanis, has become a problem for them as the leaders of those willing to return to Pakistan are allegedly threatening them with eviction.

The families of the 10 people who recently got their names registered in Bangladesh's electoral roll after winning a legal battle, got their electricity supply cut off in the camp, popularly known as Geneva Camp, in the Mohammadpur area.

But their new status has brought them only misery as some members of the Stranded Pakistanis General Repatriation Council (SPGRC) did not like the idea. "We consider ourselves as Bangladeshis.

We have no reason to go to Pakistan," said Mohammad Hasan, who enrolled his name in the voters list last week. "But our situation in the camp is now vulnerable, and we may be evicted any time by the SPGRC."
