KARACHI, May 25: A broad anti-imperialist democratic alliance is the need of the hour to wage a concerted struggle against imperialism, feudalism and military rule.

This view was expressed by the speakers at a condolence meeting held here to recall the struggle and sacrifices of the left wing leader and former vice-chairman of the Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party, Ghulam Nabi Kalloo, who, during his half-a- century of people’s democratic and anti-imperialist struggle, remained on the forefront under the banners of the Azad Pkaistan Party, the Awami League, the National Awami Party and the Mazdoor Kisan Party.

They said that the rulers of Pakistan, particularly the military establishment, had been exploiting the working classes and had put Pakistan on the path of destruction.

The meeting, which was held under the auspices of the CMKP, was presided over by eminent writer Shaukat Siddiqui. The speakers included Khadim Thim, Zubairur Rahman, Omar Baloch, Mohammad Yamin, Manzoor Razi, Shaikh Gyasuddin, Hasib Ahmad, Hasan Ailia, Ahmad Altaf and Mirza Maqsood.

A.R Arif, president of the party, conduced the proceedings while Samidad Khan read out a paper on the life and struggle of Ghulam Nabi Kalloo.

Referring to the clouds of war hovering over the region, the speakers flayed the Indian BJP government and Pakistan military rulers for war provocation, and expressed their apprehension that the war might provide an opportunity to prolong the weak and unpopular governments tenure in the name of national security and patriotism.

They pointed out that all the wars with India were fought during the military regimes in Pakistan; even the Afghan proxy war for western imperialism was fought during the Zia military dictatorship, which infected Pakistan with drugs, the Kilashnikov culture, ethnic hatred and sectarian violence, while the country had been made subservient to American Imperialism.
