ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: Federal Minister of Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi has asked the NWFP government to submit its recommendations regarding construction of the Keyal Khawr hydro power project within three weeks and keeping in view the constitutional requirements.

The recommendations of the NWFP government will be submitted to the prime minister for decision.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday the minister made these observations while presiding over a meeting to resolve the certain issues regarding construction of Keyal Khawr hydro power project in NWFP.

He said matters relating to the project need to be finalized for submission to the prime minister to start the construction. The NWFP government should base its recommendations on the Power Policy 2002 and the constitution of Pakistan, he added.

The decision, whether the project is constructed by Wapada or the NWFP government, will be taken under the provisions of the constitution. The point of views of the NWFP government, Wapada and Private Power Infrastructure Board were also discussed in the meeting at length.

The power project is located at Keyal Khawr, a right side tributary of the River Indus in District Kohistan, NWFP, at a cost of $120 million and with a proposed installed capacity of 130 mw power generation.

The meeting was attended by secretary and special secretary of Water and Power, chairman Wapda, MD, PPIB; secretary Irrigation and Power, NWFP and other senior officials of the Ministry, Wapda and NWFP.
