HYDERABAD, May 25: A large number of residents of Khuda-ki- Basti, Kotri, staged a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Saturday against the non-availability of drinking water.

Talking to newsmen, the leaders of the colony residents’ action committee, Kamran Khalidi, Mohammad Yamin Qureshi, Mohammad Azhar Ali and others, said they were being deprived of drinking water although they had been paying their water bills regularly.

The protesters said the elected representatives had assured the people that the problem of drinking water would be resolved but no water was supplied to Khuda-ki-Basti for the last 15 days.

They alleged that the funds earmarked for the water supply scheme of Khuda-ki-Basti were being reportedly transferred to other union councils and warned that its residents would protest against such a move.

STRIKE: A strike was observed in Tando Jam on Friday in protest against the shifting of a 25kv generator from the local telephone exchange to Tando Adam.

Residents of Tando Jam, including elected representatives, also staged a protest demonstration outside the local Press Club and a sit-in in front of the telephone exchange.
