LARKANA, Oct 12: The district president of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Munir Shahani, who was allegedly killed in an encounter with the Naushahro Feroze police two days back, was buried in Choharpur village on Tuesday.

A large number of the JSQM workers, relatives and villagers attended the funeral procession. JSQM leaders Dr Nazir Solangi and Momin Samo while disputing the police claim alleged that Mr Shahani was killed in a fake encounter.

They demanded that an impartial inquiry be hold to ascertain the facts. They announced a three-day protest in the district. Ayaz Shahani, the brother of the deceased, alleged that his brother was tortured before being killed. "We will knock the door of court for justice," he said.

JSQM chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi said the party would not support Mr Shahani's relatives, if he was found involved in any criminal activity. Mr Qureshi said the party had never asked him to commit a crime.

WATER ROTATION: The executive engineer of the northern Dadu division on Tuesday announced the water from the Dadu canal would only be released for the Johi branch of the southern Dadu division from 13 to Oct 20 due to a shortage of water in the Indus River.
