KARACHI, Oct 11: The law and order in Sindh came under discussion at a high-level meeting held at the Governor's House on Monday.

Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, federal ministers Aftab Ahmed Sherpao and Babar Khan Ghauri, provincial ministers Rauf Siddiqi and Adil Siddiqi, and many senior officials attended the meeting which was chaired by Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad.

The meeting decided to make security measures, taken to ensure security of life and property of people, more effective. Dr Ibad noted that Sindh was in the forefront of fight against terrorism in the country.

He told the meeting that out of 27 cases of terrorism, the investigations in 24 had been completed and the accused arrested. Investigation in another two cases was progressing expeditiously.

Besides terrorism, street crime was also being paid due attention, he added. Mr Sherpao held out the assurance that the federal government would extend full cooperation to the provincial government in maintaining law and order.

The meeting was told that required equipment and resources would be provided on preferential basis to check terrorism and control crime. The meeting also decided to take measures for strengthening intelligence network further.

Emphasis was laid on greater awareness among people with regard to the safety measures against terrorism and checking terrorist activities more effectively. The Sindh IGP briefed the meeting about law and order and details about the recent assassinations of Mufti Jameel and Maulana Nazir Taunsvi.

DELEGATION: Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqi has said that noted ulema belonging to various schools of thought and enjoying influence at the town and UC level would be given representation in the committees set up for maintenance of law and order.
