PESHAWAR, Oct 10: Minister of State for Water and Power Engineer Amir Maqam said on Sunday the government was ready to remove genuine apprehensions of federating units on technical aspects of Kalabagh dam.

He said this while addressing an open kutchery at Wapda House in Saidu Sharif, according to a press release. The construction of new water reservoirs is need of the hour and the federal government is ready to address all the genuine concerns of federating units in this behalf, he said.

The country has attained economic stability as a result of the government's policies, he said. In order to ensure continuity of these policies, it is important that President Gen Pervez Musharraf does not shed his uniform and lead the country towards progress and prosperity, he added.

The minister of state approved 62 transformers for Kalam to address their low-voltage problems. A sum of Rs25 million would be spent to complete the project. He said these transformers would be installed within one week.

Condemning the present spate of terrorism in the country, he said terrorists were the enemies of both Islam and humanity. He said elimination of terrorism was the top priority of the government because it was impeding efforts to attract foreign investment.

The government is committed to providing relief to the people. To meet this end, the ministry of water and power is holding open kutcheries in the country to solve consumers' problems.

He directed all Wapda officers to make electricity bills free of errors and give consumers due honour when they visit their offices. He also issued directives to improve the flow of electricity and increase of voltage.

He said the Madain grid station would soon be inaugurated, and all the far-flung and deprived areas of Kalam and Madain would be provided electricity. A camp office is being established in Swat circle to address the electricity problems there. -APP
