KARACHI: Two die in accidents

KARACHI, Oct 8: Two women died in separate road accidents in various parts of the city on Friday. An elderly woman died in a hit-and-run accident in Korangi on Friday.

Police said a 70-year-old unidentified woman was crossing a main road when a speeding vehicle knocked her down causing her instant death. Her body was shifted to the JPMC for legal formalities.

In another accident, a young woman, Nasreen, was crushed by a speeding truck on Mauripur Road. Police said the 28-year-old woman died on the spot. Her body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for legal formalities. Police claimed to have arrested the driver from the spot and impounded the vehicle. The victim was resident of Agra Taj Colony.

BURNS: A policeman was set on fire by unknown persons in Saeedabad late Thursday night. Police said Mohammad Arif, 27, was heading to the Police Training College when unknown persons intercepted him at a deserted place and set him on fire after throwing kerosene oil on him.

The victim was shifted to the Civil Hospital where he was stated to be in a stable condition. He had suffered burn injuries on his back. Police said that Mr Arif was having a discord with his wife who had gone to her parents house. Arif nominated Shakil and Imtiaz and two other unknown persons in the FIR.
