KARACHI, Oct 8: A two-day regional workshop on teaching and research methods in conflict resolution begins at Karachi University on Saturday.
It has been organized by the programme on peace studies and conflict resolution, department of International Relations, Karachi University, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, Islamabad.
During the workshop, scholars from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka would focus on concepts, approaches and theories of conflict resolution and their relevance for Pakistan and South Asia.
While the inter-state conflict is primarily related to discord over Kashmir, intra-state conflicts cover issues on ethnicity, sectarianism, water, environment and issues of economic inequality.
The question as to why there is lack of substantial interest on conducting investigative studies on conflict and conflict resolution in Pakistan would also be addressed.
The need to introduce and strengthen teaching and research methods on conflict and conflict resolution in Pakistani Universities and research think-tanks would also be the concern of the organizers.
