ISLAMABAD, Oct 6: The members of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) have submitted three more adjournment motions to the National Assembly Secretariat on various issues, including the Wana operation.
According to the ARD parliamentary secretary, Izhar Amrohvi, six members have submitted an adjournment motion under Rule 92 of the Rules and Procedures for Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992 on the incident in which two soldiers were killed in a bomb blast in South Waziristan Agency on Tuesday.
The motion states: "Two Jawans were killed while eight others, including a major, injured when a military vehicle was hit by a remote control bomb near Jandola, South Waziristan Agency, on Tuesday (Oct 5).
"This is a total negation of several announcements and claims of the government that everything is under control in South Waziristan. Such incidents have caused grave concern in the general public and the recent occurrence needs discussion on the floor of the House adjourning the business of the National Assembly."
The motion has been signed by Chaudhry Qamaruz Zaman Kaira, Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Mumtaz Ahmed Matiana, Mohammad Pervez Malik and Sardar Yaqoob Khan Nasir.
Through another motion, Mr Amrohvi said, the ARD members have drawn the attention of the House towards import of "substandard" wheat from Russia. The motion, signed by nine ARD members, states: "It has been revealed through the Pakistan Flour Mills Association that the wheat imported from Russia is of substandard quality. It is blackish and red in colour as well as not good in taste.
The imported Russian wheat contains 13.5 per cent moisture which is higher than the normal ratio. This disclosure has caused grave concern and anxiety among the general public."
This motion has been signed by Raja Pervez Ashraf, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Nawab Yousuf Talpur, Qurban Ali Shah, Syed Khurshid Shah, Khwaja Asif, Dr Fahmida Mirza, Tehmina Daultana and Sherry Rahman.
Meanwhile, Mr Amrohvi told Dawn that 11 ARD members had submitted an adjournment motion on imprisonment of a two-year baby girl in a jail in NWFP. The motion states: "It is a matter of grave concern and shock that a two-year-old baby girl is serving a jail term in NWFP under the FCR as per record of the interior ministry. The matter is of serious nature and needs discussion on the floor of the House."
The motion has been signed by Nayyar Bokhari, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sherry Rahman, Tehmina Daultana, Mehreen Anwar Raja, Maimoona Hashmi, Abdur Rauf Mengal, Khawaja Asif, Syed Khurshid Shah, Naheed Khan and Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan.
It may be mentioned that the ARD had already submitted several adjournment motions on Wana operation and law and order situation in the country with reference to the bomb blasts in a Sialkot mosque and Quetta. The National Assembly session is starting from Friday (tomorrow).
