HYDERABAD, Oct 6: Shopkeepers of the old spare parts market continued to suffer with sewage effluent inundating the Qadamgah-i-Maula Ali area on Wednesday.

A large portion of the road remained submerged under filthy water overflowing from sewerage lines.

Leaders of the Anjuman Tahffuz-i-Dukandaran ran from pillar to post to seek attention of the civic bodies, including the City Taluka Municipal Administration, Hyderabad Development Authority, Water and Sanitation Agency and the district government, but to no avail.

The director-general of the Hyderabad Development Authority, Tahir Ahmed, visited the road on a request of the shopkeepers. He said that the sewer had outlived its age because it was laid in 1973 and since then the area population had increased.

He said that sewerage of the area had been disposed of through the Barkat Bhai town pumping station to the Darya Khan pumping station. He added that sewerage had to be diverted towards the Makrani Para pumping station.

He said that a motor, provided by TMA, had been installed at the drain of Tulsi Das so that the sewerage could be diverted towards it. He said that the sewerage work of the area was a part of the Hyderabad Development Package but the funds had not been released so far.

District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman told Anjuman president Raees Qureshi and general secretary Ejaz Qureshi that he would visit the area on Thursday.
