LAHORE, Oct 4: Though the provincial government is campaigning to celebrate the year 2004 as polio eradication year, eight confirmed polio cases have been detected till to date in Punjab alone.

It is learnt that two polio cases have been detected in Muzaffargarh and one each in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Multan and Lahore. However, a report from Rahim Yar Khan, carried by Dawn on Oct 1, suggested that the number of polio victims were more than the official estimates.

Meanwhile, in order to vaccinate some 14.38 million children, the health department has made available 16.5 million doses of vaccination and constituted 34,451 teams to administer drops and Vitamin-A to children.
