QUETTA, Oct 1: Wapda's powerfully built Zeenat Parveen improved her record in the shot put by two centi meters to claim gold on Friday.

Zeenat's old record was 13.74 meters and she made her mark by creating new national record of 13.76, followed by Salma Ashiq of Railways (11.27m) while Fouzia Khatoon of Wapda (10.86) finished third.

Saira Fazal of Wapda with a time 12.60 second emerged as the fastest woman of the country to claim gold. Mehreen Khan (12.70) and Naseem Hameed (12.90) collected silver and bronze medals.

Bazgha Sharmeen of Wapda with a leap of 1.55 meter took first position in the high jump, followed by Rozia Shafaqat of Army with 1.46 and Naseen Akhtar of Wapda with 1.40.

Gulnaz Ara of Wapda clocked 2:23.30 to claim gold in 800m and she was chased home by Sumaira Zahoor of Army with 2:28.00 seconds and Shugufta Naureen of Wapda with 2:29.80sec.

Afzal Baig of Army became country's fastest man sprinting home in the 100m final with a time of 10.70sec. Muhammad Imran of Army (10.80sec) and Nazim Shah of Wapda (10.80sec) grabbed silver and bronze medals.

Habibullah of Wapda with a throw of 61.40 meters claimed the hammer throw gold followed by Ghulam Shabbir of Army (59.30m) and Nadeem Khan (59.07m) snatched silver and bronze.

Earlier, Railways Perveen Akhtar created a new national record in javelin throw. Perveen bettered the old record of 42.44m by establishing new national record of 40.88 meters and received thunderous applause not only from her supporters from Railways but also the cheering crowd.

Sultana Ashiq of Railways closely followed her with throw of 40.88 meters to capture the silver while Yasmin Naz of Wapda with the distance of 35.27 meters to capture the bronze.

Army's Sumera who recently represented Pakistan in the Athens Olympic, left her rivals far behind winning the 10,000 metre covering the distance in a time of 44.50.06. Wapda's Shazia Hidayat and Sadias Perveen claimed the silver and bronzed clocking 46.59sec and 48.55.01sec.

Rabia Ahmed of Army with 2.30 mentre clinched the pole vault gold with 2.30 meter effort. Bazgha Sher of Wapda (2.25m took) and Army's Huma Ahmed (2.25m) finished second and third. -APP
