PESHAWAR, Sept 30: The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) is re-examining security arrangements at its local office after receiving anonymous threat calls on Wednesday, an official said.

The agency suspended its activities after receiving suspicious telephone call and police were called in to examine the building. The refugee agency spokesman, Jack Redden, told Dawn by phone from Islamabad on Thursday that the Peshawar office received telephone calls after which the entire staff was sent to their homes.

"The United Nations body closed its offices in Peshawar as a precautionary measure," the spokesman for the world body said, adding that security arrangements were being reviewed.

He said the Peshawar office of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees would start normal activities when the situation returned to normal.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees office here had received a suspicious call on Wednesday afternoon after which teams of the Bomb Disposal Squad and police visited the place. The offices were vacated, but no explosives were found there.
