ISLAMABAD, Sept 30: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Friday urged the younger generation to respect and take care of the senior citizens.
In his message on the occasion of the International Day of the Elderly being observed today the president said senior citizens were rich sources of experience and valuable assets of the country. "Owing to their hard work today we are living a better life".
He also urged the civil society organizations to include agenda of senior citizens' welfare in their scope of work. "I am confident that, with their support, the government would be able to help ameliorate the sufferings and problems of the elderly," the President said.
PM: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has also reiterated the resolve and commitment of his government for the betterment of senior citizens. In his message the prime minister said the government wanted to acknowledge the services rendered by the senior citizens and taking measures to improve their living standard.
Prime minister Aziz said the observance of October 1 as International Day of the Elderly is an occasion to pay tribute to senior citizens for their services to the country. The prime minister urged the younger generation to give due care and respect to the elderly and learn from them the secrets of a successful and happy life, as they are the reservoirs of talent and wisdom.
