KARACHI: Sewage floods road in Korangi

Published September 28, 2004

KARACHI, Sept 27: A major street of Korangi Industrial Area has been submerged with filthy water owing to collapse of its drainage system, causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians, besides creating a stinking environment in the area.

During a visit to the area, one would see that the street that runs parallel to Korangi industrial area's main road, from Chamra Chowrangi to Vita Chowrangi, has been inundated with sewage.

In Sector-24, a number of industries, mostly of food items are located, and owing to sewage overflow extreme unhygienic conditions prevail. The stagnant filthy water has caused extensive damage to the street and people working in the nearby industries are the worst sufferers.

In Gulshan-i-Iqbal's block 4-A, (Journalists Society), sewage overflow is causing unhygienic conditions and damaging roads and streets. "It is surprising to note that all those streets where gutters are overflowing were carpeted recently," they said.

They said although they have lodged a number of complaints with the KWSB officials concerned and UC Nazim, none of them have, so far, taken measures to rectify the fault responsible for choked gutters. They urged the authorities to come to their rescue and order immediate overhaul of the sewerage system.
