KARACHI: Arrest of killers demanded

Published September 27, 2004

KARACHI, Sept 26: The provincial chapter of the All-Pakistan Minorities Alliance on Sunday held several events to mark the second anniversary of the killings at Rimpa Plaza.

The main event was held in Essa Nagri which was attended by Christian city councillors, town councillors and other leaders, besides common men and women.

Rich tributes were paid on the occasion to the people who died at the plaza. Addressing the mass, its central president, Liaquat Munawwar, said whenever undemocratic people unconstitutionally came into power weak men and women, especially the minorities, suffered as discrimination was let loose.

Yaqoob Sharif of the alliance's youth wing said the problems facing the minorities made it important that they remained united. He also underscored the importance of acquiring education and knowledge.

Saleem Khurshid Khokhar, a former member of the provincial assembly, said ever since the Musharraf government came into power after sabotaging the constitution, the Christians were busy picking up the corpses of their loved ones from their churches and educational institutions.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Yousuf Gill and Nadir Rafiq. A resolution was also passed which demanded that the government arrest the killers of the people who had died in the Rimpa Plaza two years ago.
