HYDERABAD, Sept 26: Activists of the Labour Party Pakistan held a protest demonstration here on Sunday against the president in uniform and interference of the army in politics.

The protesters, including women, carried banners inscribed with slogans against President Gen Pervez Musharraf and greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam projects.

Speaking on the occasion, party chairman Nisar Shah, Ghulam Qadir Meerani, Bashir Ahmad and others criticized Sindh Assembly members who had voted for the resolution urging the president to keep the army post. They announced that the LPP would launch a struggle against undemocratic forces and disputed water projects.

HCCI POLLS: Small traders contesting annual election of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry under the banner of Friends Panel have said their aim is to get rid of the alleged "Kabza group".

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Sunday, panel leader Saleem Vohra observed that the game of 'musical chairs' was being played in the chamber for many years.

The Kabza group selected their own cronies on the executive committee, instead of holding elections, he added. He said democratic process in the chamber had become a misnomer and interests of small traders were being ignored.
