KARACHI, Sept 24: The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, on Friday inaugurated the Government Degree Girls College at Metroville, SITE, constructed at a cost of Rs37.10 million.

Besides Metroville, girls from Mominabad, Orangi Town, Shershah, Labour Square, Pak Colony, Frontier Colony, Rasheedabad and Qasba Colony would also be able to admission to first year science and arts at the college. Classes there would start soon.1

The city nazim also inaugurated a 12-inch bypass water line pumping station for supply of water to UC-4 of Metroville. Speaking at the inauguration function, Naimat said that the city government was taking priority steps for promoting the cause of education.

New schools and colleges were being opened and focus was being laid on areas where educational institutions were short and where girls faced restrictions in obtaining admissions.

He pointed out that in the city government schools, not only was education free till matric, but textbooks were also being supplied free-of-cost and female students of classes 1-8 were given a monthly stipend of Rs100.

He exhorted parents to get their children, particularly girls, admitted to schools. He told the gathering that work on 20 roads would start within three months while construction of the Shahrah-e-Orangi and Banaras Chowk road would also start soon.

The city nazim declared that camps would soon be set up for granting lease in kutchi abadis, adding that it would be his effort to get the task completed during the tenure of the present city government.

The city government, he said, had started schemes of water supply and sewerage in all areas without any discrimination. He said that old buses, coaches and minibuses were being gradually phased out and replaced with new buses, urging transporters to participate in the city government's urban transport scheme and bring new vehicles on roads.

Pointing towards the work being done by the city government, Naimat said: "In the next elections, people will return only those who come up to public aspirations," he declared.

The function was also addressed by UC Nazim Abdul Razaq, Adviser to city nazim Nasim Siddiqui, central President SPLA Prof Riaz Ahsan, EDO Higher Education Rais Alvi and others. Mr Razaq informed that the city nazim had approved the establishment of a 50-bed hospital for Metroville. - APP
