ISLAMABAD, Sept 22: The opposition has decided to raise the issue of ongoing military operation in Wana again in the National Assembly on Thursday, sources told Dawn here on Wednesday.
According to the sources, members of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) have submitted two more adjournment motions to the National Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday to discuss the Wana issue.
Earlier, the opposition boycotted the National Assembly session when the government did not allow a debate on the Wana situation saying that the issue had already been debated in the House.
The opposition members at that time insisted that the debate had become necessary after bombing of the area by the Pakistan Air Force aircraft on September 9. However, when the interior minister opposed the move, the opposition members walked out of the assembly after raising slogans against the government.
The opposition, they said, was likely to create a rumpus in the House, if the government again did not allow debate on the motions. The sources said eight members of the ARD on Wednesday submitted an adjournment motion under Rule 92 of the Rules and Procedure for Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992 seeking a debate on reports that bodies of tribal people were lying unattended in Wana and no one was coming forward to identify them.
The motion, moved on the basis of various news reports, states: "The dead bodies of the tribals are lying in the area unattended without coffins and 55 persons, who died there during the operation, are locals of Wana. The administration had not allowed the treatment of the injured persons who were in hundreds.
People of the area are not identifying the bodies because the person, who identifies his relations, is arrested forthwith. No arrangements have been made for evacuation in the area as reported and the situation is very pathetic.
These facts are also included in the report of Peshawar High Court Bar Commission, that visited the area and gathered facts which cannot be denied because of its credibility."
The motion has been signed by Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Tehmina Daultana, Naheed Khan, Syed Naveed Qamar, Pir Aftab Shah Jillani, Khwaja Saad Rafiq and Syed Khursheed Shah.
