LAHORE, Sept 22: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday set aside the order of the Punjab government under which journalist from Okara Sarwar Mujahid was detained for three months.

Sarwar Mujahid was put under a three-month detention under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance on July 31 and confined to the Sahiwal district jail on the charge of inciting public opinion and fanning conflict in Okara.

His brother Muhammad Anwar challenged the detention order through a writ petition. His counsel Azam Nazir Tarar submitted before Justice Sheikh Abdur Rashid that the journalist had been detained for his correct and objective reporting on the incidents frequently taking place on the Okara Military Farms.

The counsel stated that the management of the military farms had developed enmity with the journalist, who was earlier charged with committing terrorist activities and an anti-terrorism court in Lahore ordered his release after acquitting him of the charges. He submitted that the charges contained in the detention order were ambiguous and incorrect.
