PESHAWAR, Sep 21: The election office of Afghan President Hamid Karzai was inaugurated here on Tuesday by Daud Khan, brother of the governor of Afghanistan's Nangrahar province, Haji Deen Mohammad.
The office is located in Danishabad, an area dominated by Afghan refugees. The presidential elections in Afghanistan are scheduled on Oct 9. Colourful posters of Mr Karzai are displayed in and outside the election office.
The posters also carry pictures of late commanders Ahmad Shah Masood and Abdul Haq and Haji Deen Mohammad. Other candidates' election offices have not yet been opened.
Daud Khan urged the Afghan people to vote for Mr Karzai and said that he (Mr Karzai) had put the country on the road to peace, prosperity and development, adding that the Afghan people would support the forces of peace.
The election office would also cover Punjab and the NWFP. The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has claimed registering 800,000 Afghan voters in Pakistan.
