LAHORE, Sept 21: The PPP has called for the formation of a commission of retired judges to look into allegations of fraud against various housing schemes.

A meeting of the party's Lahore coordination committee under the chairmanship of Khalid Kharal said on Tuesday that a number of housing schemes were reportedly selling plots without being in possession of lands.

The matter should be thoroughly probed, Munir Ahmed Khan said while briefing reporters after the meeting. The participants were happy over failure of the ruling party to have the Balochistan Assembly pass a resolution in support of Gen Musharraf's uniform.

They said that in the light of the 17th amendment it was unconstitutional on the part of Gen Musharraf to stay in uniform beyond Dec 31. The participants criticized the conviction of former NA speaker Syed Yousaf Reza Gilani for giving jobs to various people. They said it was strange that the takers were getting promotions and the giver had been sentenced to 15 years in jail and fined Rs100 million.

The LCC also appointed whips at divisional level and spokespersons for various departments. The spokespersons would keep an eye on the performance of government departments and give party's point of view on it.

EXECUTIVE MEETING: Meanwhile, Punjab PPP President Qasim Zia has called a meeting of the provincial executive for Sept 28 to discuss by-election on a provincial assembly seat in Gujranwala. The meeting was initially scheduled for Sept 24. According to a press release, party's organizational matters will also come under discussion on the occasion.
