JUI to hold APC

Published May 25, 2002

LAHORE, May 24: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam will hold an all-party conference here on Tuesday to build up pressure on the government for the restoration of religious clauses in the election form.

JUI secretary-general Abdul Ghafoor Haidry said this at a press conference here on Friday.

He said the JUI had contacted about 60 political and religious parties, including the PPP, the PML-N, the PML-QA, the Jamaat-i-Islami and the Millat Party, to attend the APC.

Mr Haidry said the US was siding with India against Pakistan.

He said the US wanted to conduct an operation in tribal areas to eliminate suspected Al Qaeda men and Taliban. The current pressure from India should be seen in this perspective, he said.
