ISLAMABAD, May 24: The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), in collaboration with Adventure Foundation Pakistan, will arrange National Children Mountain Conservation Meeting (NCMCM), 2002 from July 1 to 10.

According to an official statement, the event is being arranged in connection with the year 2002, which has been declared International Year of the Mountains by the United Nations.

It will be held in the Kaghan Valley to create awareness among children, from 12 to 14 years of age, about the mountains’ ecosystem. A group of 80 boys and girls with 20 staff members will be selected from all over the country to participate in this national event.

Under the NCMCM, the PTDC will undertake a number of activities, including visits of the group members to the local schools and their participation in a mountain marathon.

The selected participants of the meeting will also take part in the cleaning of trail and surrounding area of Saifulmuluke Lake, establishment of the waste collection site, tree plantation on the mountains’ slopes and collection of information about the problems of the area. Besides these activities, the PTDC will also conduct training in the fields of camp craft, trekking, hiking, use of rope, out door cooking etc.
