Man, wife shot dead

GILGIT, May 24: A man and his wife were gunned down by unidentified assailants in the Tangeer tehsil, 250km of here, on Wednesday.

The assailants sneaked into the house of Qabad Khan and opened fire when Khan put up resistance to them, killing him and his wife on the spot.

The police have registered an FIR against the assailants.

MC REMOVED: The chairman of the municipal committee, Gilgit, Khushleem Jan, has been removed from his office through a no-confidence motion moved by Javed Akhter Advocate, the opposition leader in the house.

The vice-chairman, Shafiquddin, has tendered his resignation to express his solidarity with the former chairman.

The election commission of Northern Areas will shortly announce the schedule for filing the nomination papers for fresh elections.
