KARACHI, Sept 15: The chief minister's adviser on excise and taxation, M.A. Jalil, has directed the officials of his department to increase the fee of personalized number plates for vehicles so that the trend of using such registration number could be discouraged.

According to an official handout, the adviser ordered that Rs20,000 fee being charged for personalized number plates should be enhanced up to Rs200,000. The handout stated that the increase in charges would generate revenue for government besides help discourage the trend acquiring such plates.

The personnel of law enforcing agencies generally found it difficult to identify such plates in case of accidents, it added. The excise and taxation department officials said that the new fee structure for such number plates would be announced shortly. -PPI
