BAHAWALPUR, Sept 14: Kotwali police on Tuesday took into custody zoo canteen contractor Ghulam Husain and vendor Sajjad Husain for serving stale food to the visitors on Monday causing food poisoning to some 35 people.

Zoo curator Naseem Ahmad had moved for the registration of an FIR against the contractor and the vendor, but the police have not registered a case against them so far..

The authorities have sent food samples for chemical examination, and after receipt of the report, the decision about registration of a case will be taken. Meanwhile, 10 affected people, including women and children, are still under treatment in the Bahawal Victoria Hospital.

SUI GAS: The prime minister has released Rs200 million for the provision of Sui gas to Hasilpur. This was stated by MNA Mian Riaz Husain Pirzada while speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday.

He said a Nadra office and the wireless local loop facility had also been extended to his constituency. He criticized the area police against whom he said maximum complaints had been received. He alleged that the crime rate was on the rise under the police patronage. He warned the police to change their attitude.

SCHOOLS: As many as 248 more non-formal primary schools will be opened in the district where 231 such schools are already functioning. This was stated by DO (literacy) Riaz Ahmad while speaking at a literacy walk organized on Tuesday in connection with the literacy week. The walk was held from Farid Gate to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital, and was participated in by schoolchildren and NGOs.
