SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 10: Women councillors set up a hunger strike camp on Friday in front of the DCO Office and vowed to continue it till the transfer of DCO Tariq Najeeb Najmi.

Two of the protesters, Anwari Bibi and Riffat Yasmin, fainted and were removed to the DHQ hospital. Some men Nazims of different union councils also joined the women's strike.

Their leader Suraya Fatima Kharal told mediamen that the strike was observed against the behaviour of DCO and to protect the district government system. She claimed that the DCO had not yet released their annual grants and honoraria approved by the district council two and a half moths ago.

Later, the situation worsened when the DCO called the women councillors mad and discarded women in front of councillor Dr Nasira Shaukat. The protesters besieged his office, displayed banners and raised slogans against him.
