FAISALABAD, Sept 10: Contrary to the claim of provincial Law Minister Raja Muhammad Basharat about registration of case against murderers of Qari Noor Muhammad, the district police have said they have yet to institute any case in this regard.

Inquiries revealed on Friday that the application moved by the deceased's father-in-law, Qari Muhammad Tayyab, was still lying in the police record for the last 10 days without any formal proceedings.

The claim of Kotwali police about the registration of case under 16 MPO against Qari Noor also proved wrong, as no FIR had been entered into the record of the police station.

When contacted, Kotwali police station SHO Sheikh Amir Masood said he was unaware of the proceedings of the application moved by Qari Tayyab for the registration of murder case. He also claimed that no such case under 16 MPO had been entered into the record so far.

Law minister Raja Basharat had claimed in the Punjab Assembly on Thursday that a case against unknown murderers of Qari Noor had been registered. However, the local police officials have denied the claim.

It may be mentioned that Qari Noor was arrested by plainclothes men and the Elite Force personnel on Aug 13. However, after almost four days of the arrest, the police claimed that they had held the Qari from Kotwali police station precinct.

They claimed to have recovered explosive material, foreign currency and objectionable cassettes from him. After his death in the custody, the officials claimed that he had died of a cardiac arrest.

POLICEMEN HURT: Two policemen suffered serious injuries when pillion rider opened fire on them at Samundri on Thursday night. Reports said constables Shaukat and Iqbal were on patrol duty when two motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on them. Grievously injured, both were shifted to a hospital. Investigation was being conducted after registration of a case.
