ISLAMABAD, Sept 9: Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan, said on Thursday that most of those killed in the air attack on a training camp in South Waziristan were foreign militants, including Chechens, Uzbeks and Arabs.

Speaking to Dawn, the ISPR DG said a prominent local figure who was helping foreign militants in the tribal area was also killed in the attack. However, he did not disclose the identity of the local facilitator.

Responding to a question, the ISPR chief said there was no retaliation from the other side as it was a surprise attack conducted in the early morning. "There was no casualty among the forces who conducted a successful attack," he added.

Answering another question, Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan said he could not give details of the attack which continued for over two hours. "The attack was part of an on-going military operation being conducted against terrorists in the areas along the border with Afghanistan," he said.
