BD blast claims two lives

DHAKA, Sept 5: Two people were killed and seven injured in a bomb blast on Sunday near a military compound on the outskirts of Bangladesh's northeastern city of Sylhet, police said.

"The bomb blast took place at 8:50am in a house of a labourer," said Mahfuzul Haq, police Deputy Inspector General of Sylhet. The house is near the military compound just outside the city, he said, adding that four people had already been arrested over the bombing.

The injured were being treated in Sylhet's Osmani Medical College, Mr Haq said. The blast follows a deadly grenade attack on an opposition party rally on August 21 which killed 20 people and a series of unexplained blasts in Sylhet in recent months. -AFP
