BAGHDAD, Sept 5: Two US soldiers were killed and 16 wounded on Sunday night in a mortar attack outside of Balad, north of Baghdad, the US military said in a statement.
A woman was killed and seven other people were wounded in a fierce clash which broke out late on Sunday after a US convoy was ambushed in the city of Mosul, police said.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Hashem Ahmed Shihab gave the toll from Mosul general hospital's police station. Iraqi fighters fired about a dozen anti-tank rockets at the convoy, witnesses said. US troops returned fire and the ensuing battle lasted almost half an hour. -AFP
