'PM wants effective local govt system'

ISLAMABAD, Sept 2: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz wanted close coordination between local governments, MNAs and MPAs to make the LG system more effective, said Chairman of the National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB), Daniyal Aziz, on Thursday.

The prime minister stressed the need to evolve a mechanism to ensure clear and effective coordination between the concerned authorities, Daniyal told PTV. The NRB chairman had a meeting with the prime minister soon after the latter took oath of office.

Giving details, Daniyal said, "The prime minister very closely monitored the local government system during his election campaigns in Tharparkar and Attock. "During the meeting, Shaukat Aziz appreciated the devolution of power plan and showed his keen interest in strengthening the system.

"The PM instructed that weekly-meetings should be convened to quickly resolve the problems faced by the local governments in the smooth functioning of the system," Daniyal Aziz added. He said, "The prime minister wanted to streamline all matters pertaining to local governments by fully implementing devolution of power plan." -APP
