QUETTA, Sept 1: Awami National Party chief Senator Asfandyar Wali Khan has said that the rulers must recognize the constitutional rights of the smaller federating units so that the deprived provinces may have authority over theirresources.

Speaking at a public meeting in Chaman on Monday, he cautioned the government that interference from Chaman and South Waziristan in the internal affairs of Afghanistan would cause destabilization that would not be in the interest of Pakistan.

Opposing the use of extra-constitutional methods in Balochistan by the government, the ANP leader said his party would support the Baloch nationalist parties against the oppressors, who were responsible for unrest in the province.

He said the rulers could tackle the prevailing problems by recognizing the ground reality. He said there would be no harmony between the federation and the smaller provinces unless the rulers respected the resolutions adopted by the assemblies of Pukhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh against the construction of Kalabagh dam, cantonments in Balochistan and the Thal canal.
