KARACHI, May 23: The curtailment of staff in the education department of the city government, under the provincial transition plan, could badly affect the works pertaining to the supervision of schools and colleges in the city.

This was observed during a meeting of the executive district officer education and district officers education with the members of the provincial transition committee recently.

The city government officials were of the view that the decision to abolish 500 posts of the education department and placement of the officers and employees in the surplus pool were not wise, said the sources in the education department.

The transition committee was told that the two separate directorates on colleges and schools affairs had been reduced to 58 from 187, while the staff posted under the technical education directorate had also been asked to report to the surplus pool, which was causing problems in the monitoring and governance of over 4000 educational institutions and about 45000 people working there.
