KARACHI, Aug 31: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that the City District Government of Karachi (CDGK) will provide facilities to people visiting beaches.

He said that the city government was examining the proposals of local and foreign investors with regard to plantation, restaurants, swimming pool, residential cottages and other recreational facilities along the coast at Paradise Point, Hawkesbay and other spots.

Talking to a delegation of investors from Kuwait on Tuesday, the nazim pointed out that coastal land would not be sold. However, he made it clear that investors interested in development schemes in the coastal belt would be encouraged.

The Kuwaiti delegation presented an investment project amounting to Rs600 to Rs700 million whereby sea water would be used for water sports, besides, construction of shops, amusement park, restaurants. Besides, the plan envisages construction of cottages and apartments to be rented out to visitors.

DCO Mir Hussain Ali informed the meeting that a number of local and foreign investors had submitted offers in response to the city government's letter of expression for provision of recreational facilities in the coastal areas. He said that the investment promotion and enterprise department of the city government was examining all those proposals.

Naimatullah Khan said that the city government wanted to provide recreational facilities even to common people in the coastal areas.

He said that offers of local and foreign investors for this purpose would only be accepted on merit. Moreover, he said that the development of coastal areas would be carried out on BOT basis and the city government would abide by agreements in this regard. -APP
